behind the scenes

well, it finally happened. i got my first nasty email this morning. i wrote back to the girl without being mean (even though i kind of wanted to). i actually thanked her for reading. haha! then i tried my best to brush it off, but, i'll be honest, it's kind of thrown me a bit. i don't understand why people find it necessary to tell you they don't like you or your blog. if you don't like it, please don't read it. ignore me. but don't say mean things, please. i'm a very sensitive girl, and mean comments hurt my feelings.

i really thank God though that this is not the norm by any means. this blogging community has been so incredible for me. i get a lot of emails from you guys. and besides this one, they have all been incredibly uplifting, encouraging, and personal. i love that you feel comfortable openly telling me things about your life. i love that i've inspired even one of you! i never thought of myself as inspirational! hearing that just encourages me to keep living my life the best way i know how, to keep loving the guts out of levi, and to keep searching for the good and the positive in all things and situations. my blog has given me a place to be myself at all times. it's a place where i can showcase my quirky, sometimes weird, personality. the post below is a perfect example of that. i love that you guys accept me for who i am and appreciate me. it makes every day so much sweeter and happier.

i'm definitely not going to let the comments of one unhappy girl get to me or change how i do things around here. i've got plans for this blog, and it is here to stay, so all the haters out there should just accept this and keep their unkind words to themselves. i have enabled comment moderation though. i don't want to let other people's negativity seep into this blog. i think it's safe to say that none of us wants that here! so if you guys are wondering where your comments are, don't worry. they're in my inbox, and i will approve them as quickly as i can.

and just so i'm not hinting at my future plans for the blog without giving you any kind of clue as to what i'm talking about, i'll tell you this - i've thought a lot about the title of my blog. it's becoming less relevant to the life levi and i are currently living (hopefully, it stays that way!). i've thought about changing the title, but i have decided against that. instead of changing the title, we will be changing our lives. we're taking the good fortune we've had and sharing it with others in need since we know just how it feels to be in that position. right now, we really don't have much in terms of money or resources, so we're doing this in very small ways. but as this blog and our good fortune continue to grow, we will be giving back in bigger ways. i believe that God's biggest commandment to us is to love Him and love others. i remind myself of this every single day and try to live my life according to that principle (and trust me, i often fail miserably). i think the world would be an even more beautiful place if we all tried to live this way.

  1. Yuck yuck.
I tend to think that the not so nice comments are from the jealous & the sad :(
I suppose we just have to feel sorry that saying mean things is how they are spending their day, when really, who has time for mean things! Not I :)

And I think you're pretty gosh darned fabulous!

  7. It is so sad that people go out of their way to make rude comments when really, no one is forcing them to read your blog!

Don't let the negativity and toxic people get you down darling!

How could she say something bad about your blog?! I adore it! xxx

  8. I love your posts! This is actually my first time commenting but I love you blog and your attitude about life, love, and happiness.

Don't let the bitter change you!

Your posts make me see things differently so don't change!

  9. Instead of letting that person's note upset you, try thinking of it in a positive way. Assuming it wasn't a personal attack but a criticism of something you said, then I would just be proud that my writing impacted someone enough to send my a note about it--negative or not.

You spread happiness and cheer through your blog. If that pisses anyone off, they are simply jealous of your ability to love life.

  10. I love your attitude - to this little incident and to life in general!
    xo

  11. Sorry you got that nasty message. Sometimes the ability to comment brings out the worst in people. I don't understand why. But thanks for keeping on in spite of it all...it's brave. I really enjoy your blog!

  12. Who in the effing world would be mean to YOU? That blows my mind and makes me sad. You are so lovely and kind and positive. I hope that it didn't hurt too much, lady. I am a very sensitive gal myself, so I can relate. I'm so sorry, but remember how much we all love you and your shiny light you spread in our life!

  13. It always blows my mind when I hear that someone has anything negative to say about one of my favorite bloggers.
I come to your blog, like some of the others I read, because it's so positive and inspirational.
I love your outlook on life and your wonderful spirit.
Keep it up...reading your posts always leave me with a smile on my face. :)

  15. I'm sorry that happened to you - you certainly don't deserve it.

You and your blog inspire me. You find joy in the little things.

    Have a great day, lady.

  16. Hmm.. I can't think of a reason why anyone won't like your blog? One thing's for sure, that person really must have nothing better to do than to take the utmost effort to send you an email. Some people need to get a life!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with your ending statment. Very true. And I admire you for doing what is hard.

Also, I cannot even begin to imagine what someone could dislike about you OR your blog. How could someone come up with something negative to say about someone so honestly amazing? It blows my mind.

  18. You're outlook is a good one and I like M.J.'s advice. Keep your head and keep being true to yourself. I'm pretty honest on my Gentle Giant blog and I'm sure there are plenty of people who judge me. But I'm writing for the people who can relate to my life and my words. They are way more important than anyone else and like you said... they far outweigh any of the negative responses. Thankfully. I love your blog! Keep it up!!!

  19. I've been following experiment in poverty for awhile now and it is such a lovely refreshing place to visit once a day! Thanks for always being positive even when it's diffcult and not always easy. I must say I agree, I believe God expects us to love Him and love eachother imagine how many more bright and lovely people we would encounter if we all followed such simple guidlines.

    Keep shining bright

  20. So awesome and good for you! So many people when they start doing well for themselves forget where they came from and how things once were.
Sorry you got mean messages. People are stupid sometimes.
By the way, in about a hour or stop by my blog as I have an award for you :)

  21. girl. i hear you. got a meanie commenting in my last post. bummed me out.

anyways, i adore your blog and from our little interaction, i seem to adore you as well.

glad to have found you, friend. even cyberly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i've often wished for a "hater catcher" i imagine a dream catcher- like object that blocks peoples negativity and mean comments before you even hear them because whether they should or not they stick with you and bum you out. i'm a sensitive person too and even tho i try not to let things get to me they often times do. but your attitude in the rest of this post is inspirational and hopefully it goes to show she who must not be named that in reality her email or comment was a waste of time and energy. people enjoy beauty in small things and actually do look on the bright side of the world. ive found great people on this blog and if they hurt my friends well they hurt me so im sorry. but im sure your day will get much better with all this love i've already read on here :) oh yea and i ADORE your blog. please dont change :)

  23. Ugh! I am so sorry some unhappy person was so freaking bored wrote some not so nice words to you. Blah! I don't get it and I don't think I ever will. I for one love you and your blog. If I knew who this mean person was...I'd do some unpleasant things to her myself! Ha! Know that there are more people in this "blogging world" that love your words and spirit. Don't let some insecure person bring you down.

    :) ((HUGS))

  24. I just don't understand how someone could choose to use the precious moments of their day to be mean and hateful. It just makes no sense. I am a teacher and have recieved two nasty letters in my career. Hard to deal with, but I think your response was great!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jasmine, I am impressed with how well you handled that. I am sure I would of said something unkind. I love the positivity and I agree that is God's biggest command of us. Keep up the good work :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. What a fantastic attitude you have! I seriously don't understand haters. Don't they have anything better to do than read blogs they don't like and send hatemail? Craaazy.
Anyway, I think you're fabulous. So there.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've never understood why people feel the need to send nastiness to others. Maybe they are unhappy with their own lives and want to spread it around? Who knows. Just realize that is one person while you have many readers who love you and look forward to your posts. Also realize you are not alone. Remember when it happened to Naomi at Rockstar Diaries? You both have wonderful blogs and if people don't like them, they shouldn't read.

I know I get excited everytime a new post of yours shows up on my reading list. Your blog is lovely. Keep sharing your world with us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well I like your blog and meanies are silly! Theres nothing to hate about it! So don't change anything! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Amen to that!! That's all I have to say really. I enjoy your blog, because it's honest and real. So, wham-o to her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm de-lurking to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog. You're adorable! Absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sadly, the internet is haven for people to be able to be rude anonymously. Don't let it get it down, they are being mean because they are lacking something in their life.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You are so beautiful and your blog is wonderful. I love reading your entries every day and I seriously don't understand how someone could send a nasty email to say how much they don't like you or your blog you way too FANTASTIC not to love.

    ReplyDelete
  33. poo on them! what's not to like here?!
and besides, isn't it true that when start to get nasty emails it's actually a GOOD sign, because it means that you're REALLY reaching people? (like, someone's not actually famous until they get made fun of on SNL?)
anyways, we all think you and your blog are FABULOUS so don't change a thing :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jasmine. You are simply delightful. I wish you all the luck and success in your new place and your whole life. May it be whole for you always. <3

  35. How crass. I've always wondered what the other person feels like they accomplish in telling someone they don't even know that they hate their blog. Jealousy is truly amazing sometimes. True Fact.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i love you i love you i love you. keep smiling.

  37. I got a really mean email this week too. My philosophy is just to ignore it because who cares what this random person thinks of me?? But the truth is that it always stings to have people attack you.

I think your response is wonderful and I'm so glad you're keeping the blog around! I've gotten hooked :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Keep the blog title, I love it!

  39. I think you and your blog are great!

  40. Good for you for taking the 'high road' with the mean commenter!

Don't let anyone get you down, your blog is fun, happy, and a joy to read.

Enjoy your life and don't let anyone get in the way of it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. how dare she!? i am extremely protective of my friends, and yes, i feel we are friends!

you have to really just feel sorry for someone whose life is so awful that they need to spread their anger to someone else in order to feel better. poor girl.

you are lovely. i love this blog. it makes me smile. it inspires me and i'm so happy i was lucky enough to stumble upon it.

    all the best,
    kate :)

  42. ugh! that sucks about the mean comment, i love your blog, it's great. anyone that tells you otherwise is pretty crazy in my opinion :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am glad to see how many supporters you have, Jasmine, and agree with them. With so many negatives in the world, why would anyone stop at your sweet, quirky, and uplifting oasis of joy and leave a nasty or unpleasant comment.
I would not have handled this comment so diplomatically...and am proud of your class and integrity!

    ReplyDelete
  44. God, I hate when that happens to people. It's like, this is our oasis, our blogs, where we can be ourselves, say what we like, say how we feel and hopefully inspire someone, give back in some way. I guess, a lot of people are just in such bad shape these days, financialy and spiritualy, and not a lot of them can take life in a positive way. So when they see good things happening to others, they get bitter. And want to hurt, so that they hurt less. I don't know. I'm also horribly sensitive, and very much affected by what people say or think. It's best to just brush it off, and keep going. As you are! Because on every 1 miserable comment you will be receiving 1 milion wonderful positive ones. And hopefully that one miserable one will eventually become postive, too. good luck to them, I say! xoxo

  45. Hi Jasmine. Thank you for stopping by, and for your sympathy. I appreciate it.

  46. ew. nothing is worse than a debbie downer...but you have a lot of support, including from me :) i love your blog! and i am happy to have found it!!!

  47. Such a nasty email was totally unnecessary. Everything you write on your blog is an uninhibited reflection of yourself, not a forceful opinion impressed onto others. That girl should understand that and appreciate the insight she is allowed through your blog. On a happier note:may your blog live long and prosper.

    ReplyDelete
  48. oh my,
i know this is like your 45th comment but i just had to write and tell you {and i hope you already realize this} your absolutely amazing and really, REALLY, insperational. isn't it so sad how people are so discouraged and sad in their own lives they have to try and make others the same way? people like you don't come along everyday, and i'm glad to have discovered you!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh I am so sorry this happened!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Seriously, dont fret so much about that nasty email. That chick was probably jealous or something equally dumb. =)

    ReplyDelete
  51. This has happened to a lot of my blogging friends recently.

I have this idea that it is one person who is taking their bad life out on everybody else.

    But maybe that's just me.

Good for you for not listening to them! I love your blog and don't think you should continue to kill them with kindness like you did.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ditto to Ms. Hunter! You are so freaking good at this that it would suck for someone like that to get you down. (probably just someone having PMS or going through something rough and needing a punching bag...sorry you ended up being the brunt of that.)Wish I could give you a big hug! xo

    ReplyDelete
  53. well, i'd be more than happy to kick this girl in the shin and if she happens to be reading this comment BRING IT ON!
wow, for a former social worker i think i might have a streak of violence in me, hehe.
but really, if i could, i'd give you a big hug right now and some ice cream or a beer. keep on posting girl and don't let some mean jerk bring you down.

  54. You are wonderful! So glad I came across this blog. :)

  56. It's so obvious that she is insanely envious. So very lame. There's no point in writing someone telling them you hate their blog, it's so petty and juvenile. I enjoy your blog thoroughly and you have tons of devoted readers, don't let one sore nutcase get to you. You're a rockstar, Jasi! :)) <3

    ReplyDelete
  57. i just don't get things (people) like this.

you are brilliant. and darling. and i love super ropes too.

    have the best day ever.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh dear Jasmine...UGH! Why do people feel the need to be so ugly and mean? I do not get it. Sorry for whatever harsh words you received...I too am sensitive, so I know that those things can crush a lovely girl's spirit ! I suppose that person is just a wee bit unhappy in life. Anyway, I think you put it best. To love God and love eachother. That's how I can sum up my life these days, everything else I'm unsure about. But that commandent can keep us livin' from day to day :)

Have a wonderful weekend, lady !

    but i heart your blog!

  61. Beautiful words.
    Beautiful post.

    I really liked it.
Even though we've never met, I feel like we are friends.
Maybe it's the sensitive thing, because I'm also that way.

    Love the blog title.
Love the line, "Loving the guts out of Levi."

And love the way you live your life.

  62. Who cares about those people. I have only been following you a short while and I now follow you on twitter and I enjoy reading your blogs and updates. They are very inspiring. I would have told that person off. but that's just me.

  64. Well, me and the other 64 people who have commented, must have given you a hint that you're doing something right - and you are. Your blog is always uplifting to me, so ignore the meenies and just keep doing your thing.

    ReplyDelete
  65. ugh, ignore the meanies. jasmine, i've never met you, but you seem incredible and your blog is always upbeat and refreshing! and you're always lifting everybody up by making them feel important and special and that you actually care about them. don't change a single thing to please anybody else, because i think you are doing just fabulously. and if someone has a problem with that, then they just have problems. period. you're fantastic :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Lame. Ignore people who are so incredibly unhappy in their lives that they feel the need to dump it on you.

You're awesome, and so is your blog and your sunny outlook on life.
