you're totally singing the sound of music right now, aren't you?
levi and i are going to need a lot of new stuff for our new place.
the only things we have to drink out of are two pint glasses.
it's going to take us a very long time to put this house together since we're practically starting from scratch.
but, while i was packing today, i realized that we do have a small handful of things we really really love.
it really gets me excited for the day when our home is full of things we love...besides each other.
here are some things we already have that i can't wait to find places for in our new home.
this is a portrait of me (from before levi chopped off all my hair...obviously) that my dad drew. the second levi and i saw it we knew it had to be framed. i mean - look at it! it's so weird and quirky...and odd. it's sooooo royal tenenbaums. and in that gold frame?! amazing. i hope you can kind of understand why we love it.
i love this port set we have. do we drink port? no. will we ever? uh, probably not. but i love it still.
my toast plates! i also use them for desserts. i was in love with these the very instant i saw them at anthropologie. i bought them on one of my last days working there when we were given an extra discount on home items. do you know that they only give employees 20% off home items?? that's rubbish! anyway, these plates are beautiful. they had one with a tiger or cheetah or something on it, but they were all out by the time i was able to buy them so i got two of the elephants instead! :) if i ever see that fourth plate somewhere though, i WILL buy it (grab it and run) on the spot. owners of said cheetah/tiger plate, beware!
these little measuring spoons are from anthro too. aren't they the sweetest little things you've ever seen?? these were instant love as well.
{please don't tell anyone that i never actually use them though. they're a little awkward for measuring, but does it matter?!}
and finally - our ampersand. ampersands are very special to me and levi. the first thing i ever gave him was a small ampersand charm off of one of my purses. it fell off when we were hanging out so i left it on his dining room table as kind of a joke. it was while we were just sorta starting to like each other. later that day, he sent me a text with a picture of the ampersand hanging from his key chain. it's still there.
they also remind him of something his mom used to have on their living room wall. she used to repaint it every time they redecorated. i automatically love and embrace anything that brings levi memories of his mom, so i bought him this steel ampersand the second i saw it, where else, at anthropologie. i also really love that ampersands are a symbol for a union of two things.

i love the idea of having fewer, more meaningful things in your home... rather than just a house full of "stuff". i think you two are well on your way!
ReplyDeletep.s. i gave a girlfriend of mine the geese measuring spoons from anthro... and i secretly wanted to keep them for myself!
these little measuring spoons are so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteand love the ampersand! i actually have a steel A which i bought at a vintage shop :)
What is it with ampersands that I love so much. I've been wanting one for my bookcase.

ReplyDeleteYour dad's so sweet to draw a picture of you and those measuring spoons are awesome. I love giraffes!
ReplyDeleteI have a beautiful glass port set too with different color tops! Although mine doesn't have the fabulous pitcher. It came with a crystal textured platter instead. I don't use mine either, but its so pretty to look at!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - those giraffe measuring spoons are AMAZING. My mom has a thing for giraffes and she would LOVE those!!
ReplyDeleteyou must be so excited to move in. it helps to have familiar things :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute stuff. I especially love the picture.
ReplyDeletethe charm story is precious. i love that it's still on his key chain!
ReplyDeleteOoh such sweetness in things. You are truly the coolest person ever. I wanted to send you something fun for your birthday and yes it will probably be late but if you can send me an email with your new mailing addy. I will get it in the mail tomorrow morning. ;) (ummm...ya..you probably know what it is but oh well)
ReplyDeletealright, as lovely as this post was, what i really want to mention is the "true love lives on lollipops and crepes" and the picture above.
ReplyDeletethat is abso-freakin-lutely adorable.
i am as in love with that, as i am with zac efron. soooooo cute.
Love the ampersand! It's darling! And the port set.
ReplyDeleteand the bedspread background! I have the same one! :)
One great thing about moving is you can start over kind of. When I moved to my apartment 2 years ago I barely brought anything from my old place because I wanted to buy all new stuff. It took a while but we have built a very nice home in our good sized apartment in West Los Angeles. Haha we had no sofa and kitchen table for like 6 months.
ReplyDeleteYou could design a whole room around those plates!
ReplyDeletei have jeans with holes in the crotch... definitely not wearable but i can't bring myself to throw them out!
ReplyDeletejust read your profile-- i love the importance of being earnest as well. the movie is HILARIOUS!
You have some great things! When you move and figure out what you are missing you should hit up the local thrift stores... I have found that the ones in good neighborhoods have better stuff! So you can repaint furniture and stock up on dishes too!
ReplyDeleteWant to know something funny? I did a post JUST like this last week and saved it as draft because I still had a few pictures to add. Great minds think alike :) I am so happy for you and your new place ! Such an exciting time. Can't wait to see more pics.
ReplyDeleteAs for our patio...its not complete yet. I will post pictures. Eventually :)
your dad is awesome!
ReplyDeleteand that ampersand is beautific! we have a titanium one, too!
wow such cute stuff, I love the dishes, measuring spoons, and ampersand those are my favorite of your favorite things!! Can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteOMG... so this is a bit creepy... everything you listed from anthro... I HAVE! Exact!!! Wow. I think its a sign. We were destined to meet. lol. Too weird. I also have a steel "B" I collect "B's" Ok... my wheels are turning with ideas of things to send you. :)
ReplyDeleteyour hair SERIOUSLY tempts me to chop mine off again! nevermind that i have been growing out... fickle!
ReplyDeleteI love the portrait and the plates are adorable!! I can see why you love all these things. And yes, I absolutely was singing the sound of music when I read the title...hilarious!
ReplyDeletei love your ampersand! there is just something about them that looks so right. i just gave you a lovely award on my blog :)
