Don't know how you do that voodoo that you do so well...

When we first got to Voodoo Doughnut, the line looked like this:

So, we said, "no thank you" and decided to come back later. It's open 24 hours after all. We went back around 10:00 or 11:00, and there were only a few people in line. Problem solved! I don't like lines...

This guy was working...

Don't you love his shirt??

We ordered everything that looked intriguing so that we could taste it all.

(Don't worry. We didn't eat them all.)

And then we took our donuts on a little drive... we weren't too keen on eating in front of the local pimps and prostitutes who were hanging out in front of our car...

Our verdict on Voodoo? Eh. Not so great. We've both had WAY better donuts. They have a clever theme, they put weird things on donuts, and they give them good names... but that's about it. The donuts at church (btw, what's up with churches and donuts??? they're always there!) and the donuts at the little shop on the corner by the house I grew up in are far superior.

  1. I work a block over from Voodoo...and I agree, they're not that great, but everyone around here is obsessed with them! We used to get them every Friday for the office. I'm glad we don't anymore because I was always drawn in to eat one, and was always disappointed.

I think I've commented before, but in case not, I'll introduce myself. I grew up with Merry & Levi at Portland Christian Center. I love your blog! :)

  2. Oh ya, they're totally the novelty wacky and weird. Still fun to check out though.

  3. I really like the fruit loop donut. Who would have thought that they would be really good on donuts?

  4. It's weird that they don't taste good... Because they really look like they should! Misleading!

  5. Thanks for such an honest review! One of my dearest friends lives in Portland and said Voodoo didn't make great doughnuts, but I wasn't sure if perhaps she'd just been there on an off day or something....

It is a super cute idea, but I'll be forever loyal to the tiny doughnut shop near my childhood home!

  6. That's good to know that they're not that fabulous, they look pretty yummy though. That guys shirt is hilarious, I need to get my little brother one of those.

  8. Agreed! Though I did enjoy their vegan donuts. The fruit loop donut was also pretty impressive, but not the tastiest.

  10. I've never actually been to Voodoo Donuts, but I've heard they're good. Personally, I love Krispy Kreme donuts - we'd never had them in Oregon until just a few years ago. Yum yum!!
