sweetiebabyhoneybear

pet names.

love em?
hate em?
use em?

i remember the first time levi and i called each other, "baby." i felt so awkward and self-conscious at first.

now, i have to make an effort to call him by his real name...especially at the grocery store when he's at the other end of the aisle, and there are a lot of people around. i doubt they want to hear me hollering for "baby."

we call each other pet names and nicknames too (some are secrets only for us), but baby is our go-to name of choice for each other.

what's your pet name of choice?

  1. *he* accidentally typed "baber" instead of "babe" in an email... so we have become baber or babers, depending. i frequently address others as "duder"- so this fits.

this is much better than the 'jackass' and 'retard' (sooo not ok, i know) from past relationships.

  3. my other half is obsessed with pet names. i started calling him 'babe' when we started dating... that, along with 'sweety', are our go-tos.. but 'sleepy bear', 'papa bear', 'mama bear', 'sweety pie', 'sweetheart', 'mi amor', 'my boo' (though not often, i don't like that one), 'baby doll', 'babycakes', 'hottness', 'sweet thing' - for real, any cheesycute nickname you can think of, we use it.

i never thought i'd really be into that, but its definitely a way we show our affection for one another and brings us closer, as cliche (and cheesycute) as that sounds.

by the way - we started practicing one of your tricks you had on your blog awhile back - telling one another one thing you love about them each night - and it has been phenomenal. (thanks!)

  4. I'm always calling Andre "babe" and usually drag it out like I'm whining, baaaabeeeeeee. He calls me something else that I really don't want to put on here, not sure how it started but he's been calling me that for years. It's kind of funny.

  5. Oh man. So we started off calling each other "bebe" (sounds like bee-bee). Then that turned in to "beebs" or "beebers". Then somewhere down the road Jeremy started calling me "beebers city" (!?!) and now it's just "BC". Yeah. Like "birth control".

  6. We use Sweetpea and Honeybunney a lot. :) I never really cared for babe or baby simply because every boyfriend I've had has called me that and I've called them that in return.
So for him, I wanted it to be something different :)

    Oh. and Lovebug!

  7. Too funny! I'm on the fence about pet names... sometimes they're cute, and sometimes that drive me crazy, haha.

  8. I usually call my fiance babe. If we are out in public and I am teasing him though I will come up with something ridiculous to embarrass him like snookems.

  9. Petnames are the ONLY names we use, even in public usually. The real names only come out if someone is in trouble. Although he occasionaly will use my full given name (including maiden name) when he's teasing me about something. I don't even use his name when referring to him, I usually say 'my husband'...weird I know, but I love that I have one so I like to use the word. :)

As for my favorite, we use them all, and variations that you probably can't even come up with. Babe, babers, babah, baby, cutie, sexy, hottie, lover, love, sugar, sugs (like you're going to say sugar), honey, sweetie, sweetheart...oh I could continue for a while, but I'll spare you. Babe is our most frequently used name. Lover is my favorite, because he is in every way and it makes me smile. :)

  10. he's usually babe or bubby(my mix between hubby and baby, haha) and i'm usually babe, punkin, or mamabear. and he calls me grumptilda when i'm in a grumpy mood. (:

  12. "Baby/Babe" is always a safe go-to. My boyfriend refers to me simply as "J." in texts/emails (and I went with it for the blog...)
His name is Andrew- but he strongly hates being called "Andy" or "Drew"- so I called him "Roo" one day while I was trying to get him to agree to a shorter moniker. He HATED "Roo" the second it came out of my mouth- so I call him that pretty often. :)

  13. it always made me want to puke when my brother and his wife began and ended every sentence with 'honey.' especially when they were slightly annoyed with each other. it sounded so condescending. when i was dating and engaged to my husband i called him dear, darling, and he called me sweetheart. seriously the day after we got married, honey came out of my mouth 10 times! and it has stuck. i can't rid myself of it. oh well.. as long as we're not yelling them across grocery aisles right?

  14. love it. i'm the exact same way with my boyfriend. but somehow (okay, i know how.. we love to eat sweets) i became his "cupcake" and i have always called him "muffin"... short for stud muffin. ;)

  15. since my blog's title is "Wake Up Honeybear" it's same to assume that i love pet names. i won't say who honeybear is, or what it means, but that's the fun of it.

  16. I can't remember the last time my husband said my name when he was actually talking to me. And I always feel like I'm his mother when I say his name out loud. Baby is our #1 go to pet name but there is also Captain (for him), Cookie (for me), Tiger, Champ, Buster, Poopie (actually that one is for the dog, just kidding).

  19. monkey! i made a joke about scott climbing a tree + being like a monkey. that turned into monkey then monks.

a couple that shops at The Green Life a lot, call each other "monkey" too + scott said it used to confuse him, like he'd look up every time, thinking they were talking to him. ha!

i use "babe" a lot as well.

  20. M calls me "peanut" or "p" for short sometimes and I love it. But....after almost 4 years together I still haven't found the right name for him.

  21. don't really use 'em. sometimes I call mine "Matt Matt" instead of Matt. Sometimes I get 'lady' which i like.. but they're rarely used. I like 'em sorta... after a while but not at first and not all the time

  22. Did you happen to be listening to Ryan Seacrest this morning? Because this is EXACTLY what he was discussing on his show today! So funny.

  23. hahah umm... Ty calls me Goobs?

  24. I just call him "babe" and it is said ALL the time when we talk to each other. He will call me "sweets", "babe", or "pumpkin."

  25. I think babe gets used most in our house.. babe, or hon :)

Or sometimes "Captain.. whatever he happens to be doing..."

    Yup. Weird.

  26. He is boo. I am bear.

    I dig it. :o)

cute post too by the way. I do the same thing - have to check myself when out in public to not say BOO outloud or in front of strangers haha

  27. we have about 100 and most included food (sugar pie, honey nut cherrios, honey bunches of oats...)

but mostly i call him honey bear and he calls me polar bear.

and it is so hard to say his name! i always opt for the pet name.

  28. i <3 pet names.

i call Rob "boy" or "Rober"
&& some other ones to silly to tell!

  29. My son calls his wife Junior (she's 10 years younger than him). I call my husband honey. The last time he called me by name was March when he sliced his finger and was dripping blood all over our daughter's kitchen floor. He called my name to get me to come in from the living room to doctor him up.

  30. We call each other pet names more often than we ever thought we would as it started as a joke. We never thought we'd be "those" people who always call one another "Sweety" and "Honey" so we actually started calling each other ridiculous pet names that are long and usually absurd because we'll throw in whatever words come to mind. Now, I'll usually call him "Hun" and "Babe" and rarely use his first name. Who'd of thunk?

  31. My husband calls me Devil Woman. Most of his family thinks we have a bad marriage because of it. I know better - he's just a big Adam Sandler fan.

  32. We've actually never said baby... We use 'love' which is probably even more annoying. Haha! Sometimes even when we're arguing I call him 'love' and get frustrated with myself... It's hard to call him just 'Travis' now! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. we don't really use them. i guess sometimes we say "love" as in, "good morning love".
    :)

  34. Jenner and I never call each other by our names. It's always baby. Except I'm Baby with a big b and he's baby with a little b. Sometimes we even call each other "babies" which is just plain weird, but we can't stop ourselves. People make fun of us, but what can you do? :)

  35. I use baby a lot which is strange because I used to hate it when past boyfs called me babe. Our other pet names are Budi for me and Buda for him. It means husband and wife in Nepali... I didn't know that the first time he started using it, I thought he was calling me a fat old lady. Once my Nepali improved i realised he was being sweet not mean and now it has stuck.

  36. we call each other "babe"... but I'm a little like you it's weird to call each other by our real names. I probably call my hubs by his name more often but whenever he calls me by my first name I'm like "who you talking to? Is that me?" lol
