Sometimes I start to feel really sorry for myself because Levi and I don't have much money. But then I do something like sprinkle (or dump) brown sugar on my oatmeal, and I'm reminded that I have SO much. That probably sounds dumb, but there are people in the world who can't afford to put brown sugar on their oatmeal every morning... let alone all the brown sugar they want. And in the past, this was even more of a luxury!
It's so easy to get wrapped up in the culture I live in and to forget about how much I have in comparison to the rest of the world. And not just the rest of the world. I have a lot in comparison to many other Americans! I am really so blessed, and I have so much to be grateful for.
So.... thank you, God, for brown sugar. I love it.
That's all. :)
Love this. :) Today I'm thanking God for poppy seed muffins!

Jasmine, I started my California life in Long Beach, then Seal Beach and now San Francisco. My life was so similar to yours. Hang in there. You will make it to Mill Valley some day. Brown sugar on oatmeal is just the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! You don't know how comforting this was to me. It's really encouraging to hear other people's stories... or parts of them anyway. :)
DeleteI feel this way about my body sometimes. As in, something will be totally frustrating me, and then I'll go to ballet class and be like, wow. There are a ton of people in the world who would give anything to get their feet on the ground and groove around. Love the attitude, girl.

Thank you for this post. This is something I need to me reminded of as well. We are so lucky to live in the world we do. It is like winning the lottery just by being born in a 1st world country!
