what i like about you (and me), the third edition

levi and i are planning on spending today getting a jump on the packing, cleaning a bit, putting our names on our new mailbox, and testing out paint colors on our new walls (we got the keys on friday - yippee!). and now, without further ado....

welcome to the third installment of what i like about you (and me)! i'm pretty sure you all know the inspiration for this by now, but if you don't, check this out.

this week, i had absolutely no trouble picking someone (not that i ever do, really).

brooke (a lewis carroll enthusiast) writes a blog called brooke in wonderland about her life with her husband, bobby, and her adorable two year old son, parker (parkie, as she likes to call him). i've never met brooke in real life, not yet anyway, but i know she's special. she's a gem. she has the most beautiful spirit. i love her enthusiasm for life and her family. this girl may be young, but she is a darn good mom. i think mothers of any age or of any number of children could really learn a lot from this woman. she really dedicates herself to her son every single day...which is slightly tougher with parker than it is with other children since he was born deaf. it's obvious that brooke hasn't let this get in the way at all with her ability to connect with her son. i have seriously cried reading some of the letters she has written to parker on her blog. she makes me so excited to have my own babies one day!

ummmm, now me: i really like my empathy. sometimes, it's a problem. like when we're trying to choose a movie to watch. i can't watch anything that's too sad because i'll just keep crying about it for days. but most of the time, i think my empathy is beautiful. i love that i am able to understand someone's point of view or situation soooo much that i can actually feel how they feel. i think it gives me the ability to truly care about others. that's something that this world never has too much of, and i like that.

p.s. parker just had cochlear implant surgery in both ears on friday. he is doing very well, and the implants will be activated on june 30. if you wouldn't mind, please pray for parker - that he will continue to heal favorably, that the activation will go smoothly, and that the transition for him into a noisy world will be a joyful one.

I know we will meet and I am going to give you the fattest tightest hug ever ( which is kinda a big deal in my world, cause I don't hug.) :)

  15. I just read through her blog and I'm deeply touched. Her son's deafness reminded me of this: cornelius&wednesday: TGIF.

  18. i am so glad you wrote about your ability to be empathetic. i, too, am the same way. so much so that each time i am a bridesmaid, the bride notes why she loves me and it is because i feel more for others than anyone they know. hah! i mean, i take it as a compliment. so, cheers to being empathetic!
