saying goodbye

we have been trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible during this move.

yesterday, i had to get rid of something that was very difficult to part with - my collaged book case that i spent HOURS and HOURS creating.

but levi said it looked like it belonged in a teenage girl's bedroom.

which, of course, it does!

i made it when i was in high school!

i still love it though.

so its new home is here, on my blog, where i can visit it as often as i like.

have you ever had to get rid of anything that was very difficult to part with? what was it? do you still miss it?

  2. what an adorable bookcase! Tell Levi you're only as old as you feel; and that bookcase makes you feel like a teenage girl again.
I hope it went to a good home!
I used to have a gorgeous desk which my dad spray painted purple for me. Thinking about it, it was a nasty bit of furniture, but I loved it! However, out with the old, in with the new. Now I have a desk which actually looks like it belongs in my bedroom!

  4. I'm 24, and I think that bookcase is the bee's knees.

A while back my mom tossed out my Holga. Some nights I cry myself to sleep while muttering, "Just because it's plastic, does not mean it's crap."

  6. aw cute bookcase! im actually going to refinish a desk and nightstand this summer that i painted on in high school.. they look childish now (and not as cool as yours) but i love them and want to keep them in SOME form. some furniture i painted in high school and did a better job so i still like it as is, haha.

just a few weeks ago when *i* was moving, i had to part with my awesome roll top desk i got in middle school! very hard, because it was beautiful.

  8. OMG. This made me laugh because something similar happened to me when I was moving out of my mom's and in with my husband.

Upon cleaning out the back of a closet I came across this collage that I had made on a HUGE piece of poster board. I also came across this No Doubt poster I had loved (still in the wrapper) and found it hard to part with these things from my youth. But I too recognized that it would not fit in with my life, and age, now and had to get rid of it. It was a sad day for my 17 year old self.

  9. I know moving and leaving stuff is hard. Hope you get sleep and feel at home in your new place.

I sold almost all my belongings when I was moving here from Vancouver. I miss the funky stuff I had collected for in the yard the most, like the vintage yellow bicycle that I had flowers planted in the basket of out by a tree in my front yard. xo

  10. I'm a huge hoarder so I haven't parted with much. Except half a dozen years ago I had to give away my beautiful birds because my younger sister began to have nosebleeds and get sick when they were near.

  11. I also have a collaged bookcase - nightstand really. I know it's time for it to go - I made mine in high school as well. :p It's slowly getting easier to get rid of old things I've found, though. I've held on to so many things, and I find it to be almost refreshing to get rid of some of the old with every new adventure and make room for new treasures.

And I am about to begin the moving process, myself- I've moved alot of this stuff around for years and years, but this time, I'm cleaning it out- so I'm about to be feeling your pain :(

  16. it's like you read my mind!

i just cleaned my room for the first time since being back from school and had to get rid of so much stuff. im kind of what my mother like's to refer to as a "sentimental pack rat with a slight case of hoarding" i feel so guilty throwing things away... which is often why I give my friends so many "gifts"

  17. I haven't had to part with anything yet, but I'm dreading my next move. I have a feeling there will be quite a few dear things I'll lose. :(

I agree with those above. I really hope that went to a good home. It's too cute to just toss aside. :)

  20. i have a feeling i will soon have to part with my rag tag collection of photo frames... they currently occupy every single bit of space in my girly, knick knack filled bedroom.

the good thing is, when i move in with kiwi i am excited to create a space for both of us... one that we both love and represents each of us in harmony. maybe you can make another bookcase you both love!

I used to be such a hoarder, like my mother. But I think I'm getting better at decluttering! (: it's therapeutic I swear! xx

  25. i miss my collage of dream street posters for the simple reason that being in love with a boy band was actually a lot easier than falling in love with a boy next door :)
that is an adorable book case!

  27. I had to part with a bunch of my clothes in order to move in with my soon-to-be husband...one closet..oh man.

  28. When I remarried a few years ago, I had to part with tons of stuff just so I could fit in the same house with my hubby. After awhile, it got really easy to pitch stuff. I think. :-)

  29. I try not to get too attached to STUFF, but I must say that when my old faithful Roots boots - after a decade of fine, all seasons service finally gave out - and I was forced to finally part with them, it was hard. We can become companions along the way and we had travelled the world together. Nothing, not even the shiny new pair could replace the little spot of sadness I had. All things are NOT equal .... : )

  30. i totally know how this goes... since i just moved as well. it is hard to part with some things. i still have some completely torn up jeans (much like your old sweats) that i haven't given up, but hardly ever wear. it's hard to move on, but in some ways good. i try to rid myself of "crap" since moving is such a pain!!!
